POSTDOCTORAL POSITIONS are available for research on mucosal immunity, intestinal immune homeostasis/intestinal inflammation, and innate immunity. 

The laboratory focuses on understanding mechanisms regulating innate immune responses, host pathogen interactions, and immunological pathways regulating mucosal immunity and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The current position will involve examination of molecular and biochemical mechanisms regulating innate cells and pattern recognition pathways and in vivo intestinal immune responses and intestinal inflammatory disease models, along with potential cross-talk of intestinal immunity with additional immunological sites. Studies incorporate approaches in both primary human immune cells and mouse model systems.  

Education and experience:  Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent degree with a strong background in cellular and molecular immunology, biochemistry, molecular biology, and mouse models of inflammation.  Experience in examination of intestinal tissues, multiparameter flow cytometry, and bioinformatics/computational biology is desired.

Postdoctoral Position in Structural Biology (Bleichert/Glazer Labs)

Job details: We are looking for a Postdoctoral Associate with experience designing/building/aligning optical systems. The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. in physics, optical engineering, biomedical engineering, or related field (or will graduate within the next months). In this position you will have the opportunity to design and build a multiphoton (two- and three-photon) microscope and develop state-of-the-art optical tools (e.g., wavefront shaping) for deep tissue biological imaging, including the brain and spinal cord. The Laboratory of Neuroimmunology (Song Lab) studies fundamental mechanisms that regulate immune responses in central nervous system tissues, with a special interest in brain tumors and ophthalmic-neurodegenerative diseases.

Our team uses in vitro (cell lines and organoids) and in vivo (mouse) models with a combination of genetic, immunologic and engineering manipulations to uncover rules governing neuroimmunity and immune-privilege in the central nervous system. We are seeking a postdoctoral scientist interested in joining us at Yale to further investigate why the immune system in the brain is different and to devise methods to overcome barriers in treating central nervous system diseases.

Postdoctoral Fellowship on Methods for Implementation Science in the Prevention, Screening and Treatment of Heart, Lung, and Blood Health Disorders

Fellowship Overview

The Center for Methods in Implementation and Prevention Science in the Yale School of Public Health and the Yale School of Medicine are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow on Methods for Implementation Science in Heart, Lung, and Blood Health Promotion to contribute to research advancing the use and development of methods in implementation science research. Expertise in implementation science theories, models and frameworks, and/or interest in gaining expertise in these and their application to implementation science are important aspects of this Fellowship. Current projects that may be of interest to applicants include (but are not limited to) implementation science research on integration of hypertension screening and treatment into HIV clinics in Sub-Saharan Africa; reduction of cardiometabolic risk through improvements in the workplace food and physical activity environment in India, Nepal and South Africa; developing rapid approaches for research in global multilingual settings, a systematic review identifying trends and gaps in methods use in implementation research, and developing approaches to complement digital health technology implementation. The Fellow will have the opportunity to obtain a Masters in Health Science focused on implementation science through the Yale Medical School, supported by this training grant.

Research topics of current trainees include maternal care and childhood pneumonia, the intersection between interventional cardiology, outcomes, and implementation science, and mixed-methods for cervical cancer early detection and treatment and qualitative implementation methods support for a hybrid Type 3 study of the impact of workplace hygiene measures for reducing COVID risk and risk of acquiring other infectious diseases.

We invite scholars from diverse backgrounds to apply for this Fellowship. The Fellow should be prepared to address critical gaps in knowledge by 1) conducting research to inform the development, implementation, and evaluation of methods in intervention-based or implementation research focused on the prevention, screening and treatment of heart, lung and blood disorders, 2) innovating new and improved methodological approaches, and 3) provide technical assistance and training to other scholars, students, and communities in the use of implementation science approaches to research. The primary goal of the Fellowship is to support the further career development of Scholars with the potential to become innovative research leaders working to enhance implementation science methods and their practice to improve heart, lung and blood health. We seek scholars who can publish at the highest level, reach the widest audience, and impact both their substantive topical field, and the methodological field. Postdoctoral Associate Position

The Kleinstein Lab (Program in Computational Biology & Bioinformatics; Yale School of Medicine, Department of Pathology) and McDougal Lab (Program in Computational Biology & Bioinformatics; Yale School of Public Health, Department of Biostatistics Division of Health Informatics) are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral associate to join the NIH-funded Human Immunology Project Consortium (HIPC; https://www.immunespace.org) as a member of the HIPC Data Coordinating Center. The research will focus on the development and application of methods to capture published immune signatures of infection and vaccination in a machine-readable format. This will include: (1) engaging the 8 current national HIPC centers to share emerging research results, (2) automating the identification of papers to target for signature capture, and (3) developing natural language processing and information extraction approaches to identify and validate immune signature components (cohorts, immune exposure, response, etc). Involvement in systems immunology analysis projects to identify and compare signatures is possible for interested candidates.

The Kleinstein Lab (https://medicine.yale.edu/lab/kleinstein) pairs big data analyses with immunological domain expertise to better understand how the dynamic processes of the immune system affect the course of infection, vaccination and autoimmunity. The lab has developed many widely used bioinformatics analysis methods for high-throughput immune profiling data, particularly transcriptomic and B cell receptor repertoire sequencing data (https://medicine.yale.edu/lab/kleinstein/software). Dr. Kleinstein is MPI of the HIPC Data Coordinating Center.

The McDougal Lab develops and applies informatics and simulation approaches to gain insight into multiscale biomedical phenomena. They are especially interested in deriving information from scientific artifacts (computational models and papers) and in improving the practice, rigor, and capabilities of simulation studies. The lab is a major contributor to the NEURON simulator (https://nrn.readthedocs.io) and to ModelDB (http://modeldb.science), a discovery tool for computational neuroscience models.

A position is available for a self-motivated Post-Doctoral Associate in the Ameen Lab.

Dr. Ameen is a Professor of Pediatrics, Cellular and Molecular Physiology, pediatric gastroenterologist and physician scientist who has been investigating CFTR, its regulation by traffic in the intestine and importance to intestinal disease for over 25 years. The laboratory has been supported by NIH for over 25 years and is currently pursuing the following projects:

  1. In vivo animal and intestinal cell studies to investigate the role of serum glucocorticoid kinase 1 (SGK1) in regulating CFTR in the intestine- these studies involve the use of villin cre -SGK1 KO mice, and Nedd4-2 KO mice. Techniques used: Immunofluorescence label, confocal microscopy, qPCR, genotyping, animal husbandry, mouse in vivo intestinal studies, biochemistry, surface biotinylation, mass spec, phosphorylation assays, co-IP, electrophysiology Ussing chamber assays.
  2. CFTR High Expresser Cells (CHE): Dr Ameen identified a unique subpopulation of enterocytes in rat and human small intestine that express very high levels of CFTR. Current studies are aimed at elucidating the fate specification and function of CHEs in health, CF and diarrheal diseases. Studies involve scRNA seq, organoid culture, fluorescent imaging, CRISPR-Cas, knock down of genes in organoids, human organoid culture, cell culture, rat intestinal in vivo physiology, cell pH studies.
  3. Microvillus Inclusion Disease (MVID): MVID is a lethal genetic disease due to loss of function mutations in the Myosin actin motor Myosin Vb (Myo5b) associated with the apical recycling endosome in epithelial cells.  How loss of Myo5b leads to diarrhea and death in newborns is unknown. Our laboratory was first to shown that MVID results in an apical traffic defect in humans with MVID. We are using mouse models of MVID to examine how loss of Myo5b leads to severe diarrhea. These studies involve mouse organoids, sc-RNA-seq, knock down of genes, human intestinal organoids, swelling assays, fluorescence staining and imaging of organoids, and tissues, myosin studies (knock down), biochemistry, paraffin staining, cell culture.
  4. Understanding the role of SGK1 in rescue of DF508 CF intestinal disease: We are using a humanized mouse model of Cystic Fibrosis to examine mechanisms of rescue of the most common mutation affecting humans with CF. Studies involve use of Trikafta modulators plus SGK1 modulators, western blots, electrophysiology, immunofluorescence staining of mouse sections, imaging.

The Department of Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases at the Yale School of Public Health has a tradition of applying advanced laboratory and analytical approaches to integrated community and patient-based investigations for the purpose of delineating the transmission dynamics and evaluating interventions to emerging and neglected infectious diseases, such as Zika, dengue and leptospirosis. It has played a leading role in the public health and research response to the COVID-19 pandemic in the US and internationally.

Job description
We are seeking a postdoctoral associate to design and conduct longitudinal studies of SARS-CoV-2 infection in Brazil and apply statistical and mathematical modeling approaches to elucidate immunological correlates of protection. Dr. Albert Ko, Professor of Epidemiology and Medicine at the Yale School of Public Health, and Dr. Derek Cummings, Professor of Biology at the University of Florida, have initiated a prospective study that leverages a large community-based cohort in the city of Salvador, Brazil which has been followed since 2002 and experienced high rates of SARS-CoV-2 infection and subsequent COVID-19 vaccination during the pandemic.  With our collaborator, Dr. Akiko Iwasaki, Professor of Immunobiology at the Yale School of Medicine, we are performing in depth characterization of the mucosal and systemic immune responses in this population. The overall goal of the study is to identify the immunological features at the population level which may drive the transition of SARS-CoV-2 transmission from epidemicity to endemicity. The postdoctoral associate will be based at the Yale School of Public Health and work under the supervision of both Drs. Ko and Cummings. The postdoctoral associate will also have opportunities to conduct similar investigations within on-going prospective studies, conducted by the collaborative team, in the Yale New Haven Health system. The main objectives for the postdoctoral position are to design longitudinal studies that address the study aims, work closely with the field team at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, Brazilian Ministry of Health to elaborate study protocols and implement them at the cohort site, develop statistical and mathematical models, and conduct the longitudinal analyses. LGBTQ Mental Health Postdoctoral Clinical Research Associate in NYC

The Yale LGBTQ Mental Health Initiative, part of the Yale School of Public Health, is seeking a postdoctoral associate to 1) deliver and supervise the delivery of LGBTQ-affirmative cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) from our community-based clinical research lab in NYC and (2) become involved in LGBTQ mental health research, including supporting clinical trials operations, analyzing data, and supporting and leading empirical manuscripts regarding LGBTQ mental health, as interests and background permit. The primary responsibilities for this position are clinical in the context of research.

POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE - XR IN PEDIATRICS AT YALE (XRPEDS) SUBSTANCE USE PREVENTION IN ADOLESCENTS

The XR in Pediatrics (XRPeds) Lab in the Department of Pediatrics at Yale focuses on the use of extended reality (virtual, augmented, and mixed reality) in research, clinical practice, and health education with the goal of improving lives and reducing health disparities among youth, young adults, and their families. We are seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to with an interest in substance use prevention in adolescents, technology-based interventions (including virtual reality-based interventions), serious games, health behavior or public health, school-based research, and appropriate experience to join our multidisciplinary team of researchers, pediatricians, and educators.

The Postdoctoral Associate will work primarily with Drs. Hieftje and Camenga on the development, evaluation, and implementation of a virtual reality-based videogame intervention for adolescents focused on nicotine and marijuana use prevention in three CT schools. The Postdoctoral Associate will gain skills in intervention development, recruitment of study participants; focus group/playtesting facilitation; pilot program evaluation; data collection, management, and analysis; writing up results; and presenting findings to both community and academic audiences. Funded by the CT Department of Public Health, the position also involves overseeing community-building events and activities related to the project.

An exciting full-time opportunity as a Postdoctoral Associate exists in Gerontologic Biostatistics at the Yale School of Medicine. This candidate will be mentored by Drs. We are seeking a highly motivated researcher with an interest in aging research to work on methodological development in dementia caregiving. We are particularly interested in working with the postdoctoral associate on dyadic analyses and/or the joint trajectory approaches to understand how each dyad member (e.g., persons with cognitive impairment and their spousal caregiver) influences the other over time.  Potential projects include using existing data to examine interpersonal processes and issues related to design and measurement of caregiving dyads.

The position is supported by the National Institute on Aging (NIA) IMbedded Pragmatic Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and AD Related Dementias (AD/ADRD) Clinical Trials (IMPACT) Collaboratory. Principal goals of the NIA IMPACT Collaboratory are to develop and disseminate research methods and best practices in the conduct, and implementation of embedded pragmatic clinical trials (ePCT) for people living with dementia and their caregivers. The Postdoctoral Associate will have the opportunity to work with a variety of mentors in the IMPACT Collaboratory and world leaders in pragmatic and cluster randomized trial designs.

Position Qualifications:

Postdoctoral Associate in Child Psychology – Sukhodolsky Lab, Yale Child Study Center

The Yale Child Study Center announces a two-year postdoctoral position associated with federally funded studies of autism spectrum disorder in school-age children, adolescents and young adults.  One study is a clinical trial of cognitive-behavioral therapy for irritability in autistic adolescents, and the second is a study of biomarkers of late diagnosis in female and gender diverse autism. The position requires a PhD or a PsyD in clinical psychology from an APA-approved program plus completion of an APA-approved internship or a PhD in cognitive psychology or neuroscience with emphasis on neuroimaging.  Primary responsibilities for a postdoctoral associate with a degree in clinical psychology will include providing treatment and conducting evaluations of children and adolescents with autism who participate in clinical research studies in the Sukhodolsky Lab and the development of research papers. A postdoctoral fellow with a background in neuroscience will be asked to run data analysis of the existing fMRI data sets from studies of anxiety and irritability in children with autism and to help with carrying out ongoing studies of neurodevelopment in autism.  Clinical training will include individual and group supervision, didactic seminars, and participation in clinical research team meetings.  This position will allow the postdoc to develop expertise in evidence-based psychosocial interventions for children and adolescents with autism and related neurodevelopmental disorders.  Additional specialized training will be available in research methods for testing biomarkers of treatment response to therapy in children with neurodevelopmental disorders. The postdoctoral fellow will have access to a wide range of learning opportunities at the Yale Child Study Center including grand rounds, seminars, and lectures at the Yale School of Medicine. This position will also provide excellent opportunities to learn about neuroscience-based clinical research, collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of expert child psychologists and cognitive neuroscientists, and participate in data analysis and paper writing.  Specifically, this position will have access to large and carefully curated datasets of clinical and neuroimaging data from two recently completed R01 studies and will be asked to work on data analyses and paper writing in collaboration with Denis Sukhodolsky and his colleagues at Yale and at the multi-site Autism Center of Excellence Network.

Postdoctoral position available in the laboratory of Dr. Heidi Zapata, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor in the Section of Infectious Diseases (Yale School of Medicine).

My lab is interested in understanding the innate immune response in humans and how it is influenced by factors such as Age, HIV-infection, and co-morbidities such as Obesity.    My overall goal is to understand the “individual immune response” and thus answer the question of why one person will have an overwhelming infection in response to a microbe, and another person can be asymptomatic or have a mild disease to the same microbe. 

A postdoctoral position is now available to develop vaccines that target ticks and mosquitoes instead of targeting microbes directly, as part of the HHMI Emerging Pathogens Initiative.

PhD or MD with strong background/interest in immunology, and molecular biology is required.  Current methodologies in use in my lab include multicolor flow cytometry, cell sorting, RNA sequencing (both single cell (10X) and bulk), CyTOF, and protein work (western blots).

Postdoctoral Position in Translational Genomics

Multiple postdoctoral fellow positions are available in the laboratory of Dr. Curtis Pickering (https://medicine.yale.edu/profile/curtis_pickering/) at the Yale School of Medicine in New Haven Connecticut. Our laboratory studies the translational genomics of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) and other squamous tumors. Our goal is to improve outcomes for head and neck cancer patients. Our approach is to try to understand the HNSCC genome and use that knowledge to identify genes and pathways that are key to the biology of HNSCC. That biological understanding can then be used to identify biomarkers and/or therapeutic targets which can be translated back to the clinic to improve patient care. We use genomic, computational, and cell and molecular biology techniques in human tissue and cell line models.

Qualified applicants will have a PhD or MD/PhD in cell biology, molecular biology, genomics, cancer, or a related discipline. We have multiple positions open for wet lab, computational, or a combination of both skills. We are very collaborative and want researchers who are comfortable being a part of team science but also able to lead an independent project. The ability to ask scientific questions, solve research problems, and communicate your plans and results are required.

Ideal wet lab scientists will have experience with cell and molecular biology techniques. Our primary models are human cancer cell lines. Research experience with epigenetics, radiation biology, and/or cancer signaling pathways are preferred.

FDS launches in October of 2022, and will move into a newly renovated Kline Tower in the summer of 2023 along with the departments of Statistics & Data Science, Mathematics, and Astronomy. The institute was created to advance research in the mathematical, algorithmic, and statistical foundations of data science and their application to other disciplines. In addition to providing support to core foundational research, the institute hosts activities to help scholars across the university apply new methods of data science to their research. In turn, those scholars help us discover their unmet needs and thereby inspire the development of new methods and theories. POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE - XR IN PEDIATRICS AT YALE (XRPEDS) INFECTION PREVENTION IN THE NICU SETTING

The XR in Pediatrics (XRPeds) Lab in the Department of Pediatrics at Yale University focuses on the use of extended reality technologies (virtual, augmented, and mixed reality) in research, clinical practice, and health education with the goal of improving lives and reducing health disparities among youth, young adults, and their families. We are seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to with an interest in infection prevention and control, technology-based interventions (including augmented and virtual reality-based interventions (AR/VR)), serious games, health behavior or public health, clinical research, or nursing and appropriate experience to join our multidisciplinary team of researchers, pediatricians, and educators.

The Postdoctoral Associate will work primarily with Drs. Hieftje and Marks on the development, evaluation, and implementation of a AR/VR-based videogame intervention focused on infection prevention and control for NICU staff and parents. The Postdoctoral Associate will gain skills in intervention development, recruitment of study participants; focus group/playtesting facilitation; pilot program evaluation; data collection, management, and analysis; developing a manuscript; and presenting findings to both community and academic audiences. Funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the position also involves overseeing community-building events and activities related to the project.

Postdoctoral Position - Respiratory Pathogens and Vaccines (Israelow Lab)

The Israelow lab has recently opened in the Department of Internal Medicine in the Section of Infectious Diseases at the Yale School of Medicine. We study mucosal adaptive immune responses within the respiratory track to infections, and how to combat pathogens with novel mucosal vaccination strategies. We use immunology, vaccinology, molecular virology, mRNA vaccines, and animal models of infection and disease in the BSL2 and BSL3 labs. We are interested in identifying the signals that promote lasting and potent immune memory within the respiratory tract, and we will leverage this knowledge to develop the next generation of respiratory mucosal vaccines that better prevent disease and pathogen transmission.

Qualified applicants will have a Ph.D. in immunology, vaccinology, or microbiology, with hands-on experience with flowcytometry and animal handling. Experience with cloning and protein purification is a plus. Candidates should be highly organized, self-motivated, hard-working, and reliable, with good interpersonal and communication skills. The Stites laboratory has recently relocated to Yale University from the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in order to expand our interdisciplinary and translational research program.  The lab is populated by a diverse group of scientists who come from experimental, computational, theoretical, and medical backgrounds.  We apply our interdisciplinary strengths to the study of diseases.  The RAS network and its role in cancer has been our “model system”.  However, we are also interested in expanding our approaches to other pathways and other diseases.  Multiple postdoctoral positions are available as a part of our relocation and expansion.

Postdoctoral Associate Position on Malaria Genomics and Vaccinology in the Bei Laboratory at the Yale School of Public Health

Context

The recent global stall in the reduction of malaria deaths has made the development of a highly effective vaccine essential. A major challenge to developing an efficacious vaccine is the extensive diversity of Plasmodium falciparum antigens. While genetic diversity plays a major role in immune evasion and is a barrier to the development of both natural and vaccine-induced protective immunity, it has been underprioritized in the evaluation of malaria vaccine candidates. For both current and novel candidates, we will test the role of genetic diversity on immune neutralization by creating transgenic parasites by using efficient CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing. These parasite lines will be used to assess the role of specific variants in immune evasion. This project requires the cohesion of genomic sequencing technologies to identify potential candidate antigens and naturally occurring diversity, well-characterized human longitudinal cohorts to follow evolution of infection and immunity, standardized assays to serve as in vitro correlates of immunity, structure-based approaches for vaccine design, and strong ties to both scientists and institutions in endemic countries. Our research team is uniquely positioned to combine these critical requirements to investigate the implications of parasite diversity on the development of protective immunity and vaccine efficacy, an essential factor to accelerate malaria vaccine discovery. This approach fills a critical need in the malaria vaccine development field in that it brings genetic diversity in candidate antigens to the forefront of vaccine candidate.

Postdoctoral Position in Neuroscience and Neuroimmunology (Favuzzi Lab)

The Favuzzi lab in the Department of Neuroscience & Wu Tsai Institute at Yale University is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate with expertise in-vivo two photon imaging and optogenetics. The lab (favuzzilab.com) studies neuroimmune interactions and brain wiring, including understanding how microglia interact with neurons and synapses in health and disease. Postdoctoral Positions in Structural Virology

Joint postdoctoral positions are available in the laboratory of Dr. Yong Xiong in the Department of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry at Yale University. The Xiong lab is investigating host-viral interactions and intracellular transport of viruses using a variety of techniques including X-ray crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and cryo electron tomography (cryo-ET), biochemistry and biophysics, and computational biology. Postdoctoral Position in Structural Biology (Bleichert/Glazer Labs)

The Bleichert and Glazer labs (https://www.bleichertlab.org/) in the Departments of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry and Therapeutic Radiology at Yale University are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic, goal-driven, and team-oriented postdoctoral associate with a strong background in biochemistry and/or structural biology to study the cell penetration mechanism of a tumor-targeting DNA autoantibody. This position will allow the candidate to leverage the expertise of both labs in structural biology, tumor biology, and the pre-clinical development of cancer therapeutics to improve the efficacy of this autoantibody for cancer therapy and drug delivery applications. Postdoctoral Position in Host-Pathogen-Vector Interactions

Department of Internal Medicine and Department of Microbial Pathogenesis

The Laurent-Rolle lab at Yale University, New Haven, CT is now accepting applications for Postdoctoral associates in the area of host-pathogen-vector interactions to start as soon as possible.

We are interested in how RNA viruses evade the host immune system and how host-responses to virus infections prevent or enhance infections. There are multiple ongoing projects that are interdisciplinary and highly collaborative including studies on SARS-CoV-2, Zika virus and Eastern Equine Encephalitis virus. Specifically, we are interested in 1) the mechanisms of actions of interferon stimulated genes in host resistance to viral infections, 2) dissecting the molecular mechanisms utilized by pathogenic viruses

to antagonize host immune responses, 3) the development of vaccines and novel therapeutics against viral infections, and 4) identifying biomarkers of viral infections for early diagnosis.

The Urbanization and Global Change Lab at Yale (http://urbanization.yale.edu) has an opening for a two-year postdoc to work on a NASA-funded project using Multi-Decadal and Multi-Scale imagery to characterize temporal trends in urban tree canopy and urban heat islands for the state of Connecticut.  The postdoc will be responsible for developing algorithms to assess time series of remote sensing data to assess trends in average UHI intensity. Familiarity with Landsat, MODIS and time series analysis required.  The postdoc will work closely with the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (CT DEEP) who will use the results to implement state-wide policies regarding environmental justice, including prioritizing interventions for at-risk communities. Project outputs will also help CT DEEP’s Urban Forestry Program to identify communities for targeted urban forestry investment to mitigate urban heat and increase the wellness of EJ communities, especially mental and physical health. The postdoc will also work with the Urban Resources Initiative (URI), the contractor for New Haven’s tree planting. URI will use the output to identify neighborhoods and communities most at greatest risk of UHI impacts to prioritize street tree planting.

A Ph.D. in geography, remote sensing, earth system science, engineering, or a related field is required. The postdoc must be in residence at Yale and have expertise in remote sensing of urban vegetation and UHI. Preferred skills and experience include: HPC computing; developing efficient codes; computer programing (e.g., Matlab, Fortran, Python, R or C); handling very large data sets efficiently; track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals; experience with GEE and GitHub; expertise with Landsat and MODIS data. Machine Learning Methods for Large-Scale Immune Profiling (Van Dijk/Iwasaki Labs)

Postdoctoral position in the laboratory of Silvia Vilarinho, MD, PhD at Yale Liver Center.

The Vilarinho lab at Yale Liver Center is seeking highly motivated and dedicated individuals who are passionate about advancing the cellular and molecular understanding of liver function in health and disease with the goal to identify novel therapeutic targets and interventions.

Our laboratory is interested in using human genetics and genomics paired with highly informative cohorts of patients to discover new liver disease genes. Using cell based and mouse models as well as biochemistry we study how a mutant gene causes the liver phenotype. Thus, by uncovering new liver disease genes, we provide a diagnosis leading to new therapeutic options, and we gain new insight into liver biology. IDEAL CANDIDATE:

The Department of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine invites applications for a 2-year T32-supported postdoctoral position.  The fellow will be involved in research focused on developing medications to reduce alcohol drinking behaviors. We have one available position with a start date ranging from now until the position is filled.

The postdoctoral fellow will primarily be involved in a project focused on testing novel medications for reducing alcohol drinking behaviors using experimental human alcohol drinking paradigms. The project is funded  through the NIAAA funded Center for Translational Neuroscience on Alcoholism (CTNA).  The postdoctoral fellow will have also access to training on tobacco regulatory science and the opportunity to participate in experimental and epidemiological research on tobacco products.

Postdoctoral Associate in LCA and MFA for Wood Products

Available at Yale University

The Yao Lab at the Center for Industrial Ecology has a postdoc associate position available for conducting environmental life cycle assessment (LCA) and material flow analysis (MFA) of wood products in Brazil. This project is part of the emerging concept of bioeconomy that the Yao Lab has been focusing on.  The postdoc will work in an interdisciplinary research team that includes industrial ecologists, forest ecologists, social scientists, and soil scientists. The overall research project will examine the potential synergies of industrial reforestation for wood products with secondary forest regrowth. This postdoc position will develop LCA and MFA models to understand the climate implications of different pathways of silvicultural prescription and wood utilization.

Key tasks:

  1. Conducting LCA and MFA for different wood products, including pulp and paper, mass timber and other long-lived wood products.
  2. Couple the LCA and MFA of wood products with forest dynamic models to understand the carbon fluxes associated with different carbon pools.

Required qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in forestry, natural resources, engineering, and other related fields.
  • Experience with LCA and MFA of wood products demonstrated by peer-reviewed journal publications
  • Past research related to Brazil or other regions in the Americas is preferred
  • Rich knowledge in forest carbon accounting, wood products and pulp and paper production
  • Excellent verbal and writing communication skills in English
  • Ability to collaborate with researchers in different disciplines

The Robinson lab (Yale Cancer Center Department of Therapeutic Radiology) is seeking a computationally focused postdoctoral candidate with expertise in bioinformatic analysis including analysis and visualization of bulk RNA-seq and related whole genome assays (single cell RNA-seq, DNA mutation analysis, etc.) to join our translational research team.

Dr. Robinson is a physician scientist radiation oncologist who leads Yale’s inpatient radiation oncology consult service with clinical expertise in hematologic and central nervous system cancers. The lab has a translational focus with a goal to drive clinically-meaningful research to improve the treatment of patients with cancer through the lens of mRNA splicing diagnostics, prognostics, and therapeutics, particularly immune and cellular therapies. Work conducted in the lab has led to the identification of potential splicing-mediated mechanisms of resistance to CAR T-cell therapy in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, in which Dr. Robinson has pioneered the use of bridging radiation therapy. This is a postdoctoral position at the Human+Artificial Intelligence Lab. This lab is seeking highly motivated and dedicated individuals who are passionate about advancing the use of machine learning in supporting and enhancing human presence in clinical care. The HAIM lab in the Department of Internal Medicine at Yale School of Medicine provides a stimulating training environment and interdisciplinary opportunities to collaborate with physician data scientists and clinical informaticians. Our laboratory is interested in developing, validating, and studying novel machine learning methods with multimodal data (electronic health record, image, and other data sources) to develop, validate, and implement robust machine learning algorithms to provide risk prediction for clinical decision support. We are also interested in developing and using machine learning tools for dynamic electronic health record phenotyping to target clinical care pathways and exploring methods to understand and test for disparities in care when using machine learning algorithms.

Post-doctoral fellowship position in epigenetic dysregulation mechanisms in gastrointestinal cancers

A Postdoctoral Fellowship position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Nita Ahuja at the Department of Surgery, Yale School of Medicine. The research in the Ahuja laboratory is focused on understanding the epigenetic dysregulation in various cancers during disease progression using patient samples, patient derived organoids, PDX mouse and various cell line models, as well as translating the findings to develop novel detection biomarkers and identify novel treatment targets.

We are looking for motivated individuals interested in studying the molecular, cellular, and epigenetic dysregulation of gastrointestinal cancers and other disorders. Applicants should have a PhD or MD/PhD in biological sciences, molecular/cell biology, genetics or related fields. Experience in RNA biology, epigenetic techniques, CRISPR and other gene editing techniques, immune-priming using epigenetic drugs, and analyzing genomic data sets will be an advantage. Accomplished PhD graduates seeking postdoctoral fellowship training in programmed cell death are invited to apply to the Katz Laboratory in the Department of Pathology at Yale University.  Cell death signaling pathways are critical to diseases of cellular excess such as cancer and diseases of cellular loss such as neurodegeneration.  Recent work has focused on the understudied BCL-2 family member, BOK, and its role in the formation of mitochondrial associated membranes (MAMs).  Big picture questions of interest include (1) how cell death programs regulate immune-silent vs. immune-stimulatory programs, (2) how multiple different forms of cell death cross-talk with each other, and (3) how cell death proteins balance their death-regulatory functions with “day-jobs” that maintain normal cellular homeostasis.

Postdoctoral Associate, Techno-Economic Analysis of Recycling Systems

A position for a Postdoctoral Associate is available at the Center for Industrial Ecology at the Yale School of the Environment. The U.S. recycling industry is in the process of undergoing a major transformation, triggered by a combination of technological advances, updated trade policies, and an increased interest in circular economy solutions. AI-supported robotics is one such novel technology, used in different design setups in material recovery facilities (MRFs), and the focus of a broader research project into which this research is embedded. The interdisciplinary project team develops improved AI and robotics technology, studies human-technology interactions, and develops scenarios of future recycling systems. The Postdoctoral Associate will conduct a techno-economic analysis (TEA) of different MRF sizes and designs to analyze the tradeoffs of sorting efficiencies, cost, and workforce implications. Ideally, the TEA incorporates outputs from the other team members. The Postdoctoral Associate will work under supervision of Professor Marian Chertow and Dr. Barbara Reck.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in industrial ecology, environmental and/or sustainability sciences, engineering, applied economics, or a similar discipline. The Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence, part of the Child Study Center at the Yale University School of Medicine, conducts research and teaches people of all ages how to develop their emotional intelligence. Our work focuses on (1) the development and impact of social and emotional skills among diverse populations, including education settings and organizations, and (2) the mechanisms by which social and emotional skills and training impact significant life outcomes.

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Associate to join the Sustainable SEL Assessments to work on a multi-year project, Fostering Students of Color and Their Educators to Thrive Through Sustainable SEL Assessment (Chan Zuckerberg Initiative; PIs Dr. Christina Cipriano and Jessica Hoffmann).  The discourse of emotions in schools are situated within the politics and power of the education system, a system whose policies and practices have historically oppressed and marginalized Black students’ academic and social emotional development through the propagation of inequitable, inaccessible, and punitive exclusionary educational practices fueled by oppressive school-based assessment methodologies. The purpose of this project is to investigate how the Digital SEAD and School Climate Toolkit SEL assessments work practically in schools to support thriving learning environments for students of color and their educators. These assessments cover both adult and student emotional intelligence skills, and student social and emotional experiences at school. Along with our partner organizations - the Urban Assembly and Trajectory of Hope - the three-pronged mission of this project includes: (1) investigating how SEL assessment tools work together with native school data systems and practices for students of color and their educators; (2) demonstrate two models of SEL assessment utility alongside our community partners including cataloging and distributing recommendations for SEL assessment best practices for schools; and (3) finalize and make available a full suite of culturally responsive, rigorous, sustainable, and accessible SEL assessments and corresponding practices.

Job Description
The Scharfe laboratory is searching for a postdoctoral biomedical researcher for innovative, novel molecular technology development applied to biomedical research as well as novel clinical diagnostics. We are developing a number of novel tools and genomic approaches for molecular screening and diagnostics and the study of disease pathogenesis. Examples of ongoing work include technology development for screenable disorders in newborns, rapid genotyping of genomic variants to improve patient care, microhaplotype sequencing for population genetics and forensics, and multiplex capture and sequencing for viral nucleic acid testing. We are using next-generation sequencing, microarrays and quantitative PCR for analysis of DNA variants, complex genetic rearrangements, and genomic haplotypes. Our laboratory has a major interest in the analysis of challenging clinical samples such as genetic materials from dried blood spots, cell free circulating DNA and small forensic samples. Post-Doctoral Position in Translational Reproductive Immunology

Research in the Konnikova group is directed at studying the development and maintenance of mucosal immunity at barrier sites including the placenta. We are interested in understanding how homeostasis is established and maintained in humans and what goes awry to cause disease. Postdoctoral Position in Spatial Ecology and Biogeography

A postdoctoral position is available with the Applied Wildlife Ecology (AWE) Lab at the Yale School of the Environment under the supervision of Prof. Nyeema C. Harris, Knobloch Family Associate Professor of Wildlife and Land Conservation. The AWE Lab investigates antagonistic interactions in mammal systems including parasitism, competition, and predation namely in terrestrial carnivores. Ongoing and future projects include human-wildlife conflict, spatial variation in consumption through diet and stable isotope analysis from hair and feces; blood meal analysis from mosquito and ectoparasites; assessing microbial and parasite diversity; carnivore movement from radio-collars; and mammal monitoring via camera-trap surveys. Our work has direct implications to protected area effectiveness and species conservation.

We seek an inquisitive and ambitious individual to harness multiple sources of publicly available geospatial data and integrate information regarding animal distribution and movement, protected areas and landuse change, human-wildlife conflict, environmental conditions, ecological interactions such as predation and parasitism, and human pressures and behavior. Additionally, the candidate will support and use newly acquired movement data from carnivores to investigate socio-ecological dynamics in urban environments.

Qualifications for the position include a Ph.D. in geography, landscape ecology or a related field, experience in collecting and analyzing movement data, strong publication record, and exceptional research and communication skills.  The candidate should have demonstrated competency using GIS, python, R, Google Earth Engine and remote sensing, Github as well as occupancy modeling, step selection, agent-based modeling, circuit theory and habitat selection. Project Description

Applications from PhD or other doctoral-level degree holders are welcomed for a full-time position focused on using pathogen genomic and spatial data to describe the transmission of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in high tuberculosis incidence settings under the primary supervision of Prof. Ted Cohen in the Department of Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases.

We are currently seeking a postdoctoral associate who is eager to work with our team to develop and apply new methods for the analysis of pathogen genomes and metadata to identify bacterial, host, and environmental factors related to transmission. The postdoctoral associate would have access to data from multiple settings, including at least the Republic of Moldova, Malawi, and South Africa. Our multi-national team includes individuals trained epidemiology, medicine, pathogen genomics, spatial statistics, transmission modeling, and economics.

Postdoctoral position- Emerging viruses, Wilen lab

The Wilen lab is a highly collaborative, friendly, supportive, and dynamic environment in the departments of laboratory medicine and immunobiology. We are looking for a postdoc to study host-pathogen interactions of emerging viruses. We are specifically interested in understanding how potential future pandemic viruses cause disease and interact with the immune system. We are focused on novel previously uncharacterized RNA viruses from virus families known to cause significant human disease, including bat coronaviruses, bunyaviruses, rabies-like viruses, and noroviruses. We use molecular virology, CRISPR, organoids, single-cell technology, and animal models in the BSL2 and BSL3 labs to address fundamental questions about viral pathogenesis and immunity.

Post-docs are provided mentorship tailored to their professional and scientific goals and the autonomy to explore their own ideas and experiments. Mentorship is a priority in the lab, and trainees have frequent formal and informal meetings with Craig. The Center, under the leadership of Dr. Thomas Gill, conducts longitudinal studies and clinical trials to enhance the scientific knowledge base of the disablement process in older persons and to rigorously evaluate promising intervention strategies. The Center works closely with the superb Resource Cores of the Yale Program on Aging (Biostatistics and Operations) and has access to data from several large NIH-sponsored studies, including (among others) the Precipitating Events Project (PEP Study) and National Health and Aging Trends Study (NHATS). Current NIH-funded research is focusing intently on distressing symptoms, functional outcomes, serious health events such as major surgery, end of life, disadvantaged older populations, and health disparities.

The laboratory of Dr. Alessandro Santin at Yale School of Medicine is looking to hire a Postdoc for a long term research appointment. The Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence, part of the Child Study Center at the Yale University School of Medicine, conducts research and teaches people of all ages how to develop their emotional intelligence. This project is an ongoing research initiative between The Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence, experts in the field of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), and EdTogether, experts in the field of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), in the promotion of evidence-based SEL programming for students with learning differences. The next phase will further diversity, equity, access, and inclusion in SEL by centering students with learning differences in SEL practice and research through systematic, deep qualitative work with diverse students and educators and completing critical scholarship for the field of SEL that supports a comprehensive, transparent, and scalable evidence based hereafter.

The postdoctoral associate’s primary responsibility will be to support all data collection efforts including the ongoing management and maintenance of student and educator focus group data, advisory feedback sessions and SLD focus group data, liaising and troubleshooting with participants across the project, and readying the data sets for analyses. The PDA will provide data analyses research support and contribute to dissemination materials, front matter and school-facing resources. They will also be invited to support in other tasks related to the team’s research, such as the preparation of research articles, grant writing, and the design of future studies. Dr. Christina Cipriano will oversee day-to-day work assignments and be the primary supervisor alongside providing additional professional development support.  

Skills and Qualifications

  • Doctorate (PhD or EdD) in psychology, education, or a related field
  • Specialization or demonstrated interest in the study of social emotional learning and equity, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL).

Dr. Brett King at Yale School of Medicine Department of Dermatology is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Associate.

The Associate will participate as a sub-investigator in clinical trials, do clinical research, and spend time in a medical dermatology clinic. Our research addresses fundamental questions in Human Evolutionary Genomics by using field work, laboratory work, and cutting-edge computational approaches to disentangle the evolutionary forces that have shaped patterns of genetic variation in human populations.

Responsibilities:

Postdoctoral position: wild immunology and disease ecology

A postdoctoral research associate position in wild immunology and disease ecology is available in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Yale University in the lab of Vanessa Ezenwa. The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to NIH-funded research investigating ecological and evolutionary interactions between gastrointestinal helminths and bovine tuberculosis in wild African buffalo. Postdoctoral position in single-cell genomics, bioinformatics, and immunology of
HIV persistence and cure

The Ho Lab at Yale University School of Medicine (https://medicine.yale.edu/lab/yachiho/) is recruiting motivated, productive, independent, and collegial postdoctoral research associates interested in innovative single-cell genomics on HIV-induced immune dysfunction and HIV persistence. This postdoctoral researcher will combine wet-bench molecular biology methods, dry-lab bioinformatic analysis, and a translational approach using clinical samples from people with HIV. The overall goal is to understand mechanism of HIV persistence and guide the development of HIV cure strategies. The immediate project will involve single-cell multi-omic profiling of clinical samples from people living with HIV (bioRxiv 2021, in press at Immunity).

The postdoctoral training will involve (a) the development and application of innovative single-cell RNAseq methods, (b) bioinformatic analysis of single-cell genomics datasets, (c) a translational approach using blood or tissue samples from humans, (d) wet-bench methods in virology (such as sterile cell culture in an enhanced biosafety level 2 (BSL2+) lab), immunology  (such as flow cytometry), and molecular biology (such as CRISPR, real-time PCR, and western blot), (e) collaboration with other researchers both inside and outside of Yale, including virologists, immunologists, bioinformaticians, computer scientists, and clinicians, (f) presentation in international conferences, and (g) manuscript preparation and grant applications.

Post-Doctoral Position in Regenerative Liver Biology

Research in the Yimlamai Lab is directed at understanding the drivers of human liver disease, particularly in Pediatric diseases such as biliary atresia and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis. Our focus is on the cell biology of epithelial cells with their microenvironment. We are seeking a motivated, dynamic postdoctoral candidate who is interested in applying next generation sequencing (bulk, RNA, single-cell, chromatin), cell biology, organoid and animal model approaches to understanding fundamental mechanisms in liver biology. As a member of the Yale Liver center, lab members have access to the Morphology cores with State-of-the-art cell and molecular imaging facilities. Postdoctoral Position in Leukemia (Halene Lab)

A postdoctoral position is available in Dr. Stephanie Halene’s laboratory at the Yale University School of Medicine, to study cancer mutations and aberrations in splicing and RNA modifications in MDS and Leukemia. The Halene laboratory studies RNA biology, such as splicing and RNA modifications (Cancer Cell 2015, Leukemia 2018, Immunity 2021), and genomics in hematopoietic stem cell biology and in MDS and Leukemia. We employ cutting edge molecular biology techniques and use primary mouse models (Blood 2014) and patient derived xenotransplantation models (Nat Comm 2019, Science 2021) to study novel treatment approaches in hematopoietic disorders, such as SCD, MDS and AML.

We use state of the art tools and techniques, including RNA immunoprecipitation coupled with high-throughput sequencing (eCLIP), single cell sequencing and single cell spatial sequencing, m6A CLIP,  Riboseq, RNAseq, targeted exome seq coupled with state of the art bioinformatic analyses, as well as biochemistry and functional genomics in cell lines, primary mouse models, and primary patient samples. We foster collaborations with laboratories at Yale harnessing novel developments for the advancement of hematologic diagnoses, understanding of disease mechanisms and development of novel therapeutics.

A full-time postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Henry Hsia of the Yale Regenerative Wound Healing Program located within the Division of Plastic Surgery at the Yale School of Medicine.  The goal of our lab’s work is to investigate wound cell biology in various microenvironmental contexts using patient-derived wound samples and cutting-edge technology including single-cell RNA sequencing.  Our ultimate objective is to elucidate how such knowledge may be translated into novel therapeutics for the clinical setting to promote more regenerative healing.  The successful candidate will be Dr. Hsia is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery and the Department of Biomedical Engineering who has developed multiple cross-disciplinary collaborations that have resulted in several important publications in translational wound research in high-impact publications including Science (PMID: 30467144), Nature Communications (PMID: 35013299), and Biomaterials Science (PMID: 34190227).

The successful candidate must have a PhD and/or MD and must be comfortable with proper experimental planning and executing laboratory techniques including cell and tissue culture techniques, biochemical protein and gene expression analyses (including RNA), and statistical evaluation of experimental data.  Experience with mouse and human studies, as well as matrices, scaffolds, and similar biomaterials is a plus.  Strong analytical and problem solving skills are required.  In addition, the candidate will be expected to have excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as supervise students and interact with collaborators; so an enthusiastic, dedicated and collaborative attitude to research is a must.  Interested candidates should send a letter of interest describing research interests and past accomplishments, contact information for 3 references, and a CV to Dr. Henry Hsia at

Post-doctoral Associate position available to study Kidney Injury and Regeneration

A full-time postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Lloyd Cantley at Yale University School of Medicine to study the cellular and molecular mechanisms of kidney injury and repair, with a specific focus on the cross-talk between epithelial cells and immune cells following injury. The Cantley lab is interested in the mechanistic underpinnings of how immune cells regulate tubule repair, including macrophages and dendritic cells, and how tubule homeostasis is maintained in healthy tubules and dysregulated in polycystic kidney disease.

The applicant should have completed their PhD or MD training and have expertise in cell culture, western blotting, quantitative PCR, and immunofluorescence staining. Knowledge in bioinformatics including MATLAB and R studio would be beneficial.

Training will include the use and interpretation of single cell RNA sequencing, imaging mass cytometry and analysis of mouse and human kidney specimens.

Postdoctoral Positions Available at the Aksoy Lab

We are inviting motivated Postdoctoral Scientists to join our group to study the physiology, and the molecular and genetic mechanisms involved in host-pathogen interactions in the tsetse fly-African trypanosome system. We study the role of the fly immune system and the influences of tsetse’s endosymbiotic bacteria in the parasite infection process.  We also investigate parasite mediated mechanisms that modify tsetse’s vector competence efficiency and influences the transmission success of trypanosomes to the next mammal in fly saliva. Finally, we are developing transmission blocking vaccines that target antigens present on the parasites in saliva that are deposited to the mammalian bite site.

We are looking for highly motivated scientists trained in a related field such as entomology, microbiology or immunology.  Our lab provides a collaborative environment and multi-disciplinary training for scientific and career development. Our lab has a track record of training postdoctoral researchers: our postdocs have international conference presentations and first authored original articles in high impact journals. We also have extensive international collaborations with researchers in Africa which provide a rich training environment for our researchers in global health.

The successful candidate will likely have (a) a recent (4-years) PhD degree in entomology, microbiology or immunology or a related discipline; (b) a track record of research productivity , as evidenced by first authored original publications in high quality peer-reviewed journals; (c) experience in–omics based technologies, and parasite or insect cultures; (d) experience with BSL2 procedures; (e) independence to lead a project as well as willingness to work in a team; (f) an open mind to learn new methods from collaborators and (g) good scientific presentation and writing skills. Previous experience in immunology, parasitology and bioinformatics are preferred. Salary and benefits are according to Yale and NIH guidelines.

Postdoctoral Associate Position in Clean Energy Justice at Yale University

Yale School of the Environment invites applications for a postdoctoral associate in equitable clean energy development. The successful candidate will support the research and writing of a forthcoming book on environmental justice with Professor Gerald Torres, faculty director of the Yale Center for Environmental Justice (YCEJ) with particular attention to tribal energy sovereignty and international just transition. The book will begin with an advanced introduction to the field of environmental justice to which the research will contribute directly.

The successful candidate will also pursue their own research related to these topics in collaboration with Professor Torres and serve as a content/curriculum development expert for new courses in the Clean and Equitable Energy Development Program, a joint program of YCEJ and the Yale Center for Business and the Environment (CBEY). The hire will work in close collaboration with YCEJ and CBEY staff as a content expert to outline critical skills and knowledge outcomes, content, and ensure the cohesion and connectivity between new courses on clean energy development and energy justice. The hire will design and professionally record content/lectures for online courses in the Clean and Equitable Energy Development (CEED) Program as well as develop teaching case studies for the course.  This is a one-year position with expected reappointment for a second year based on performance.
