Fleeing crop failure, land and job shortages, rising taxes, and famine, many came to the U. S. because it was perceived as the land of economic opportunity.
What happened during the Gilded Age?During this era, America became more prosperous and saw unprecedented growth in industry and technology. But the Gilded Age had a more sinister side: It was a period where greedy, corrupt industrialists, bankers and politicians enjoyed extraordinary wealth and opulence at the expense of the working class.
How were immigrants treated during the Gilded Age?They were treated badly and disrespected. They didn't speak the language that their bosses spoke so they were treated differently. When they didn't reach their daily quota they would be deducted from their pay. They were also not allowed to go to the bathroom until their lunch breaks.
