2.0 out of 5 stars Terrible bleed/viewing angle/washed colors
Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2018

I'm a software developer and obviously stare at screens all day. I've been rocking a 25" ASUS PB258Q (WQHD) for a couple of years and wanted to upgrade to a 32" 4k. I've been satisfied with the quality of my ASUS monitor but wanted a size increase do be able to push my monitor further back on my desk. From opening the box I was impressed with the size. Assembly of the stand was very easy, it came with the necessary cables. I must say that I HATE having proprietary power cables like LG provides. Would much rather have a universal power cord like everyone else.I plugged this bad boy into my MacBook Pro using the provided Display Port cable and my El Gato Thunderbolt 3 dock. At first I was impressed, especially with the sheer size and resolution. I had it scaled at about 1.5x so that things weren't so tiny. My MacBook pro recognized and scaled this very well. The issues started when I opened up my code editor, which is dark themed. This thing has some HUGE issues with bleed/viewing angle/color accuracy all at once. To be clear, I had the monitor about 2.5ft from me. Only about 1/3 of the monitor was visible at a time without significant wash-out issues. I would have to physically reposition my head to see other sections of the screen. Not only that, but the parts that weren't washed out had very poor colors in the first place. I compared this side-by-side with my ASUS monitor and MacBook screen, and it was a night-and-day difference. It was almost as if there was a metallic sheen to the colors of this monitor. No matter what preset or settings I tried to adjust, it was just horrible to look at. Again, this only was an issue with darker scenes, but thats what most programming tools are (for eye-care purposes). If you were wondering, the room was completely dark, in a basement, at night. There was no reason for it to be that bad and that hard to see those dark scenes. It actually hurt my eyes after staring at it for a while. For reference, I have attached a couple of crappy pictures taken with my iPhone. One of them is my ASUS monitor, and the other is the LG monitor this review is about. I know these pictures aren't perfect, but they were taken at the same time with the same distance, and the same code editor (WebStorm) with a dark theme, and it is noticeably different.I decided to sleep on it and try again the next day to see if maybe I was tired and my eyes were just hurting. The next day I hated it more than the previous and decided there MUST be something wrong. Hopefully this is a dud unit, because there is no way I would use this for actual work.tl;dr: I would not recommend this monitor, ESPECIALLY if you are a developer. The color accuracy is VERY poor and the viewing angles are atrocious, especially in dark scenes.I never ever write reviews.

I needed a nice big monitor for my laptop (a Macbook pro 13' 2017) and since now Lg is making monitors for Apple and this has the latest resolution and technology i decided to buy this one. I did a big research, some guy at a store recommend me LG because the quality of the image and colors. I've been using it for a week now and this are my thoughts.
Great image quality for images and video, i don't intend to use this monitor to play games just to surf the web, edit images and design. The resolution is so high that now you can tell when images are low res on the web or in general. 4K video definition looks fantastic. Seems this is designed for play games, there is lots of settings on monitor for gaming. About the sound speakers sound is really bad like most of users says. I am using external speakers so i won't use the internal.
To get the 4k at 60 hz i had to use it through Display Port and a usb type c cable, using the HDMI through an apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport adapter just gave me 30 hz rate. The Display Port option gave me higher resolutions than HDMI until 3840 x 2160. The best that fits my screen is 1920 x 1080 at 60 hz. A HUGE disappointment is i have a big black frame like inch and half in my whole screen and i am not able to fix it. This is called "underscan" and nor LG or Apple can offer me a solution to fix this problem. LG told me the monitor is fine that is the way it reads the Graphics Card of my Macbook and that i should contact Apple. I contacted Apple and they couldn't find a solution to this problem either. So i am using this monitor at 30' inches wide not at full 31.5'. Other solution was to change the the aspect ratio settings on the monitor, but this also don't fix the problem. I guess i will have to live with that or until apple or LG can fix this. Any help would be appreciated thanks. I suggest if you have a new apple computer (2016 or later) buy a monitor that has USB-C port, HDMI and DP seem not the best option for macs at least for the moment.
*** Update: After talked with Apple support they were able to fix my problem, they guided me through a bunch of steps so now i am using my full screen (31.5 inches at max) no underscan and very happy with my monitor. Adding one more star. Thank you Apple and LG.

*stands on soap box*

When I first booted this monitor up I smiled and knew I wanted 2x 32" displays. Not sure if I will buy another one of these or wait for the 4k @144hz to come down in price.

This is a great monitor if you use a lot of Excel or multi-page docs. I use the display port with a 1070 Ti and the only real drawbacks I've encountered have been the lack of modern 4k features like HDR, 4k upscaling, or blur/jitter reduction. Some games may require adjusting full screen settings if you run them at a different resolution than your desktop. The 60Hz is kind of a buzzkill as you'll notice more artifacts in fast paced games, but overall it's acceptable. The built-in speakers leave a lot to be desired but they're still a nice feature to have if you're in a tight office space. The HDMI port carries audio; so now is pretty much the only time you'll ever get to test out those sweet Nvidia audio drivers - on rear mounted/down facing stereo speakers nonetheless.

Overall I got what I expected and there's no buyers remorse. Will definitely consider buying more LG products, pending the lifespan of this display. I've been a fan of Samsung because they last forever on wall mounts and hopefully LG can live up to that standard. Some people seem to have issues with bleeding and improper black levels, I'd recommend trying a display port cable or buying a new HDMI cable that meets the 4k @60hz standard. Quality of cables makes a huge difference with precision work.

I've been using this for over a year now and I've had no issues at all. This is my main monitor and I use it daily. The quality is absolutely insane for a 4k Monitor. I did buy over a year ago now but it has been my best purchase to date that I use :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Der für mich beste VA-Monitor in 32"

Reviewed in Germany on March 18, 2018

Der LG gefällt mir schon out of the box besser.

5.0 out of 5 stars Monitor de 10

Reviewed in Spain on August 28, 2018

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfectly good high end monitor

Reviewed in India on December 29, 2019

Among the best top end monitors currently. Our primary use is to write software (and not gaming!). So ergonomics (adjustments), screen resolution and brightness (easy on the eyes) and real estate were the primary considerations. Also want to point out that this is the second large value item I have purchased from Amazon India and the shipment was on point: no damages to the product or packaging. Delivery on time via OTP validation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tolles Bild, bin super zufrieden

Reviewed in Germany on September 6, 2018

4K ist natürlich was Neues.

Kaufempfehlung.

4.0 out of 5 stars Günstiger und guter Monitor - Lautsprecher leider unbrauchbar

Reviewed in Germany on July 17, 2018
