Aprovisional crown or bridge restores and maintains function to that area of the mouth and keeps thepatient comfortable during the period from tooth preparation to final cementation.Types of Provisional CoverageThere are two types of provisional coverages that are commonly used, custom and prefabricated. Thedentist will determine the type of coverage needed according to the individual's case and oral condition.The construction and temporary cementation of provisional coverage may be an expanded function inthe state in which you practice.Custom ProvisionalA custom provisional represents the most common type of temporary coverage used for crown andbridge preparations. Custom Provisionals are time consuming but they are the best looking and theyprovide a natural look. This technique can be used for posterior or anterior crowns and bridges.Prefabricated CrownsA prefabricated type of provisional coverage can be used for posterior and anterior preparations.
