Abstract Purpose – The aim of the research is to investigate the influence of leadership on firm financial performance and to explore the mediating role of employees’ readiness to change. Design/methodology/approach – The paper hypothesizes that employees’ readiness to change mediates the relationship between leadership and firmfinancial performance.Atotal of 213 employees of Greek shipping firms completed questionnaires examining their firms’ leadership style and concurrently, their supervisors appraised their readiness to change. The research model was tested with the use of Structural Equation Modelling. Findings – The research findings note the importance of leadership in fostering firm financial performance; they describe how each leadership style influences employees’ readiness to change; as well as, they confirm that employee readiness mediates the relationship between leadership and firm financial performance. Theoretical and practical implications of these findings are analysed. Research limitations/implications – Given that the research was conducted during the severe Greek economic crisis, a time when employees’ behaviour is highly influenced by distinctive and complex internal and external relationships, there is scope for further work to verify that the relationships identified in this study remain valid during periods when market conditions are more favourable. Practical implications – The findings provide further support on the significance of employees’ readiness to change and the paper suggests policies for its development. Originality/value – The originality of this study lies in the finding that employees’ readiness to change mediates the relationship between leadership and firm financial performance. Further, the study was carried out in Greek shipping industry that plays a vital role in the international shipping industry which is responsible for the carriage of around 90% of world trade.

The purpose of this review paper was to determine the impact of Educational Leadership styles towards motivation of teachers in secondary schools, and to find out the type of leadership style that gives great motivation to teachers. The study focused only on three leadership styles which are democratic leadership style, Autocratic leadership style and Laissez-Faire leadership style. Based on the findings from the literature review in this paper, it showed that democratic leadership style has a greater impact on motivating teachers performance in secondary school, for instance Obi (2003) suggested that managers who adopt democratic leadership style are most likely to have high performance level from the subordinates.

The purpose of this study is to identify the impact of leadership style on employee performance. A sample size of 100 was used from one private organization in Selangor, Malaysia using convenience sampling technique. The study used quantitative approaches, and a questionnaire was designed. A five-point Likert scale questionnaire was used to determine the impact of leadership style on employee performance. SPSS software was used in analysing the questionnaires. Demographic analysis, normality test, reliability test (Cronbach's Alpha), descriptive analysis and regression analysis were presented. Descriptive statistics show that the most significant value associated with employee performance is democratic leadership style followed by laissez-faire leadership style and autocratic leadership style. Democratic leadership style has the highest mean value corresponding to 3.784 and standard deviation value of 0.8124, laissez-faire leadership style scores the second highest mean value corresponding to 3.416 and standard deviation value of 0.5858, and autocratic leadership style has the lowest mean value corresponding to 3.404 and standard deviation value of 0.7330 indicating that autocratic leadership style is poorly correlated with employee performance. Regression coefficient analysis shows that there is a significant and positive impact of democratic and laissez-faire leadership styles on employee performance. Autocratic leadership style beta coefficient value is-0.168 with a significant value of 0.025 which is higher than 0.01, hence autocratic leadership is found to have a negative significant impact on employee performance.

Apparel sector is the highest income generator of the country; it brings in an income of over USD 4.8 billion as per the Central Bank report, 2015. This is an industry that deals with 15% of the country’s labour force. In the apparel sector amount of automated processors are negligible therefore no matter what instruments, machinery and tools are brought in, it is the humans who will work on these and they are the ones who use these tools, machinery and instruments. As such performance of employees is one of the critical factors that the apparel company focuses on. Owners of these factories spend huge amount of time and money on machinery and tools to obtain maximum performance. But very little focus is given for psychological factors such as job satisfaction and behavioral factor such as leadership style. This research was done to find out the relationship of job satisfaction and leadership style on employee job performance of managerial and non-managerial employees at Sumithra Group of Companies in Sri Lanka. Five dimensions were selected for the Job Satisfaction namely works it-self, pay, supervision, co-workers and working conditions. Autocratic, democratic and laissez-faire were considered as the dimension of the leadership styles. The traits, behavior and results were the dimensions of the employee job performance. Out of the 4007 active employees at the time of the research 550 employees including all managers, supervisors and worker level employee were taken into the sample and 455 have responded to the self-administrated questioner given. This study indicated that 52% of the employee job performance in Sumithra Group is explained by the job satisfaction and the leadership style. The results showed that there is a positive significant correlation between job satisfaction and the job performance as well as there is a positive significant correlation between leadership style and job performance. The results showed that job satisfaction of the employees has more influence towards job performance than the leadership style. Findings of this study revealed that the democratic leadership style had the highest positive correlation towards the job performance than the other two leadership styles that were taken into this study. Supervision, working condition and the pay had the highest correlation value toward job performance out of the five dimensions of the Job satisfaction.

The study investigated the some leadership styles as determinants of small and medium scale industries and implication to counselling and management in Ogun state,Nigeria Three research hypotheses were formulated and tested in the study. The study adopted ex-post factor research design and 300 staff were randomly selected from the groups after the four companies had been stratified from the pool of registered companies in the states. Data were collected using a self-developed questioner by the Researchers. Firstly, the type of leadership styles adopted by the company and the second to get the view of the company workers. The objective of this study was to establish principal leadership style of secondary schools in Busia County. This was based on the critical role played by leadership in the management of schools. The study was anchored on the contingency theory, upper echelons theory and path goal theory. The study area was 15 secondary schools in Busia County. The target population was 60 respondents comprising of 15 principals and 45 teachers. The study employed stratified random sampling. Using a descriptive research design data was collected from 60 teachers using questionnaires. It was analyzed descriptively using frequencies and percentages and inferentially using Pearson’s moment correlation coefficient. Validity was tested using a pilot study of Koyonzo secondary and St Mary’s girls in Kakamega County, while reliability was ensured using Cronbach alpha of 0.6 & above. The results established a negative relationship between secondary schools heads and non-formal activities. These results will benefit policy makers in the ministry of education, academicians and school heads. The study recommends that school heads be vetted to ensure that only the effective ones are selected to lead schools.
